Mayor Coppinger released the following statement in support of Rep. Mike Carter for District 29.
“As we approach the election for state representative for District 29, the choice is clear. Our current Rep. Mike Carter has the experience, intellect, and communication skills to continue leading the communities located in District 29.
“Rep. Carter has served Hamilton County Government for 17 years in several capacities, including General Sessions Court Judge, special counsel to former County Mayor Claude Ramsey and legal counsel for the Waste Water Treatment Authority. These experiences uniquely qualify Representative Carter to continue his service, representing Hamilton County communities in Nashville.
“During his tenure in the Tennessee General Assembly, Rep. Carter has made good on his promises to his constituents. He fought successfully against strong opposition, such as the Tennessee Municipal League and other lobbyists, to pass important legislation for his district. He led the fight against forced annexation and continues his campaign for de-annexation. Furthermore, after his 2014 re-election, he turned his focus toward making high-speed internet available to the citizens in his district that currently have no access.
“Each year when the General Assembly is in session, Rep. Carter is in constant communication with myself and other members of county government, discussing bills that both positively and adversely impact our county. His leadership and communication skills are extremely critical to the success of Hamilton County, and it is for these reasons that I enthusiastically endorse Rep. Mike Carter for continuing his service as State Representative for District 29.”
